Terra Nova School's teams delighted to kick off with first competitive football and hockey matches

Please see a match report written by Mr Jamie Gerrard, Director of Sport at TN: The U13A football team travelled to Holmes Chapel on Wednesday for a friendly match against the HC Hurricanes. The boys showed a lot of character and resilience against high quality opposition in what was a fiercely contested match. The boys defended well and broke with pace and purpose and after an excellent finish from Jojo J took a 1-0 into half time. In the second half the Hurricanes continued to impose themselves on the game and in the end got the break through their pressure deserved.  The final score was 3-1 to the Hurricanes but the boys will have learnt some important lessons as for many of the team it was their first time playing 11 a side football.  Congratulations to Will T who had a fantastic game at left back and was man of the match; he delivered a stand out performance amongst many other strong contenders.

Yesterday saw a welcome return to competitive hockey for TN as our girls played their first fixtures of the term against Denstone College, both at home and away. All three teams embraced the opportunity of playing against some strong opposition. Although a low start in all games, the girls found their stride and displayed excellent hockey skills, with the U11s and U13B teams winning their matches 6 - 4 and 2 -1 respectively. The U13A team lost 5- 2, against an experienced Denstone side but as always were gracious in defeat. The girls battled well, applying pressure and playing an excellent passing game but struggled to convert into a goal. A brilliant afternoon of hockey! Well done to all involved!
