Following a comprehensive recruitment process held over the last four
months by the Board of Governors with RSAcademics, Terra Nova School has
announced the appointment of Paul Campbell as the new Headmaster. Mr
Campbell will take up the role in September 2021, as current Headmaster Phil
Stewart leaves Terra Nova to become Deputy Head at Shrewsbury International
School, Bangkok.
Will Sillar, Chair of Governors, said: ‘‘We had a large number of applications from
experienced and aspiring school leaders. We specifically sought to attract the widest
possible range of applicants, from both maintained and private sectors. Three
rounds of interviews led to a short list of four outstanding candidates. One person
stood out, and the Board was unanimous in choosing Mr Campbell for his
experience, his passion for education, and his self-effacing but uncompromising
approach to teaching and leadership.’’
Currently Executive Head of three schools in East London, Paul Campbell has
twenty years’ experience as a teacher, and has been a Head since 2010. Starting
his career with spells in Ghana, Ukraine and Borneo, he progressed to Head of
Primrose Hill Primary in London and then Monteagle School, a large primary school
in Dagenham, then facing considerable difficulties. Success there led to his current
role in which he has overall responsibility for three primaries and a senior school.
Under Paul’s leadership all have stepped forward from troubled histories to become
outstanding schools in their own right.
Paul Campbell said of his appointment: “I am incredibly excited to be joining Terra
Nova at this time. The range of experience and expertise across the school is
impressive and the School’s ambition for each child to achieve highly is clear. In my
role as headteacher I will ensure that parents, as well as the staff, have all they need
to support, stretch and challenge the children to fulfil their ambition for them. I have
been a headteacher and an executive headteacher for ten years. In each school I’ve
worked in, I’ve played my part in ensuring children flourish. This for me means
enjoying success on the sports field and in the arts, alongside exemplary academic
achievement and the development of good character. Children in my schools are
kind and act with integrity and know that success is born of hard work and a
commitment to being the best version of themselves at all times, in all they do. I will
work hard to ensure the same continues to be true for children at Terra Nova.’’
