As it is the last week of term, for this week's Wacky Assembly Wednesday' Mr Stewart allowed our children to vote for which outfit they wanted him to dress up in, and the winner was Jabba The Hut! Mr Stewart spoke about how happy we all are to have all our pupils now back on site following the return of our Year 5 and Year 7 pupils on Monday.
Sara Heritage was our first guest this week, who carried on the fancy dress theme by wearing a Pokemon onesie. Sara currently works as a Social Media Executive for Gamebyte. She told us a big part of her job is trawling through Tik Tok to find funny videos to share with the followers of the Gamebyte community. Sara told us that the best part of her job is reviewing games before they are even released. She also told us that her English lessons at school have set solid foundations as she often writes for Gamebyte's social media platforms. Thanks to Sara for joining us today and for getting in the spirit of fancy dress.
Mr Stewart then introduced Mrs Capewell and we all had everything crossed that she would arrive as Princess Leia......... and it finally happened! After weeks of us all hoping Princess Leia appeared on our screen (thanks to Harlow in Year 1 who had finally persuaded Mrs Capewell to dress up!) Princess Leia introduced this week's author Jennifer Bell who told us all about her inspiration for her book Wonderscape. Linking up to our previous guest, Jennifer told us that the book is inspired by gaming as like Sara, she is also an avid gamer! Jennifer also takes inspiration from heroes of history, such as Sir Isaac Newton. Jennifer's favourite book is Peter Pan, from being a child and she likes stories that are full of adventure and really manage to captivate the reader, although she told us that she was a reluctant reader as a child. It wasn't until Jennifer read Eragon at the age of 23 that she fell in love with books and reading and chose to pursue a career in literature. Thanks Jennifer for taking time to come on to our assembly today.
Next up was house points. A big well done to all of our pupils who have worked really hard to earn those house points. Special mentions to Ned, Thomas, Elizabeth, Vivian, Elliot, Sophia, Elexa and Jai who all received gold certificates!
The last assembly of the academic year means the last Terra Nova assembly ever for some of our pupils, especially our Year 8 pupils who will shortly embark on the next step of their education at senior schools around the country. Our Year 8 then treated us to a very special performance of 'When I Grow Up' from Matilda. Well done Year 8, we really enjoyed the performance. Mr Stewart ended the assembly by wishing us all the best for our Summer holidays and a big goodbye and good luck to all those who are leaving Terra Nova at the end of the week- we will miss you all!
