International Women's Day

Today is International Women’s Day and the theme this year is #BreakTheBias. The IWD organisation writes “Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias

In aid of IWD, Ms Faux presented an assembly focussing on gender stereotypes and how damaging they can be, contributing to a gender unequal world. She explored how representation is so important to young women and girls and how gender stereotypes are all around us from the picture books we read to our children, the clothes and toys we choose for them as babies and the expectations we have of them which in turn, feeds into their aspirations.

The assembly ended with our Year 7 girls presenting their Gender Equality Charter, laying out what they believe should be the principles of ensuring gender equality at school. All students, of all genders, have been invited to add or contribute to this charter which we will share widely when complete.

At Terra Nova we are all proud to say we are working to #BreakTheBias
