BOARDING LIFE

The evening activity programme provided by the boarding team enables strong interpersonal development through access to a wide range of co-curricular activities. Our modern boarding structure allows for tremendous flexibility in line with the busy lives of our children and parents with weekly and flexi boarding options open to girls and boys from ages 8-13.

An introduction and overview of Boarding Activities for the current Term may be found linked here.

Boarding at Terra Nova has a family approach, providing a ‘home away from home’ in our historic building at the heart of the school. The ground floor of the boarding house is home to all of our communal areas including the boarders’ common room, a dedicated study room and kitchen. Upstairs there are separate floors for the boys’ and girls’ dormitories which can be seen on our Virtual Tour

A warm welcome to every boarder

Terra Nova prides itself on its individual care of each boarder and for that reason we limit the total number boarders. There are always at least three members of the boarding team on duty and often multiple activities to choose from. There is a pupil ‘Head of Boarding’ who welcomes new boarders and ensures that Pupil Voice is central to our planning and practice in boarding.

Exciting co-curricular activities

We support our boarders to find a balance in their academic demands, co-curricular commitments and socialising alongside some crucial time for calm and reflection. Mastering this balance provides our boarders with an essential skill to navigate through life.

A home away from home

Our boarders make the most of the time they spend together within our tight knit community but keep in regular contact with home. All of our parents are able to remain in regular contact with our Head of Boarding via WhatsApp which enables a great relationship in supporting the child, no matter how far away they may be.

Boarders develop independence and responsibilty within a caring and supportive environment and new boarders are quickly made to feel part of the boarding community.
