Terra Nova’s Summer Fair & Festival took place on Friday. The event perfectly encapsulated the fantastic community school spirit as, despite the torrential rain, everyone pulled together to make sure the children benefitted from all the fun of the fair! With opportunities aplenty to soak their teachers, have their faces painted, guess the weight of the sweetie jar and hook a duck, there were lots of stalls and activities for the children. The vehement competition between the budding entrepreneurs as to who could raise the most amount for their house gave the event a competitive edge!
The festival part of the event ran concurrently with the Summer Fair and also, despite the rain, was a triumph. The fair opened to the tunes of a wonderful 26 piece brass band but it was the Terra Nova choirs, soloists and dramatic performances that stole the show! The sound of the Junior Choir singing ”Let’s Go Fly a Kite’, the Senior Choir singing ‘The Circle of Life’ rang out across the grounds and entranced the audience. The solo performers seemed absolutely undaunted, standing on a stage under awning, separated from their audience by the sheeting rain. Their performances were fantastic; the soloists bought tears to the eye and the speech and drama performances were fizzing with energy!
All in all, it was a tremendous community event. The school would like to thank Mrs Warburton and the ‘Friends of Terra Nova’ for all their hard work in putting on the Summer Fair and a big well done to the parents and teachers for manning the stalls. A huge congratulations must go to all the choir members and solo performers led by Mrs Greenwood and Mr Westall for providing such fabulous entertainment for the ‘Festival’! Thank you too to the school’s maintenance and catering teams for all their efforts. Finally, our grateful thanks to the TN families that braved the dreadful weather to support the Fair & Festival.
