Write up by Annabel Anderson, Speech & Drama teacher
A number of children took the LAMDA exams in March 2019, when we had an external
examiner visiting Terra Nova for the day. Pupils took exams in Verse and Prose and Acting. Outstanding results were achieved, there were 13 distinctions and 3 Merits. These results were well deserved as
the children put in huge amounts of work leading up to the exam. Special mention must go to Henry C who achieved a distinction in Grade 6 Acting; and Sophia S and Isabella P who achieved a merit in Grade 5 Acting.
Henry performed a piece from ‘The Two Gentleman of Verona’ by William Shakespeare and
‘’Treehouses’ by Elizabeth Kuti. Isabella and Sophia performed a duologue from ‘A Midsummer
Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, then Isabella performed a monologue from ‘After Juliet’ by
Sharman McDonald and Sophia performed a piece from ‘Daisy pulls it Off’ by Denise Deegan.

Our next LAMDA exams will be taken in Autumn 2019 and we have a brand new syllabus, which
was published this month. Speech and Drama helps with presentation skills, reading and confidence as well as teaching the children about acting and drama. Children also find the lessons enhance their English as we explore a wide range of texts from different periods and genres.

The LAMDA results were as follows:

Henry C – Grade 6 Acting
Hannah D – Grade 4 Verse and Prose
Keziah F-S – Grade 1 Acting
Maya B – Grade 1 Acting
Charlie C – Grade 1 Verse and Prose
