Terra Nova’s sports offering has been extensive this term, despite the inclement Winter / Spring weather. Pupils throughout the school have enjoyed training and playing matches in a plethora of sporting disciplines, these have included Netball, Rugby, Rugby 7s, Hockey, Cricket. The fixture list has been both inspirational and motivational and have included some unforgettable experiences: for example, the girls playing in a hotly contested Netball match against their teachers on International Women’s Day and for the boys, the opportunity to travel to Rosslyn Park, London to participate in U11 & U13 Rugby 7s tournaments.
Some recent highlights include:
Rugby 7s –
On Friday 29th March, the U13 Rugby 7s squad set off for London to play in the HSBC Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s. As per the U11s in the previous week, the U13s played so bravely despite facing strong competition from the teams they played against. Click HERE to see more.
On Wednesday 20th March, the U11 Rugby 7s squad set off for London to play at Rosslyn Park. The squad played brilliantly, facing strong competition in this national competition. Click HERE to see more.
Cricket – On Monday 25th March, Terra Nova pupils participated in a cricket masterclass delivered by Shrewsbury School’s Adam Shantry (Head of Cricket) and Gwen Davies (Head of Girls’ Cricket). The session was fun and engaging and offered a broad range of activities in addition to technical input. Terra Nova are now very excited about the prospect of cricket training and match play throughout the Summer Term. Girls’ cricket has officially arrived! A huge ‘Thank You’ to Adam, Gwen and Shrewsbury School for taking the time to provide this invaluable experience for our pupils.
TN’s pupils regularly participate in sporting events outside of school including skiing, running and equestrian competitions. A couple of the more recent are detailed below:
Running – Outside of school, on Wednesday 27th March, two Terra Nova pupils both for ran for the Cheshire County Schools Year 7 squad at Ellesmere Port running 3k. The competition was Cheshire v Merseyside. Harry came 1st for the boys out of 40 and Eliza came 3rd for the girls out of 40. This is a fantastic achievement as there are 20 in each county squad. Pictured below are Eliza (B – Yr 7) and Harry (PM – Yr 7)
Furthermore, TN’s equestrian team have been competing at an NSEA (National Schools Equestrian Association) County Jumping competition event at Southview. Congratulations to all of TN’s participators but particularly to Freya B for winning both her classes.
