Last week an elite team of Year 8 pupils travelled to Sedbergh School to take part in a University Challenge style academic competition. Forming two teams of 4, they battled 7 other schools to make it through to the final. Terra Nova pupils positively shone at this event; their keenness to do their best, their ability to work as a team and their self belief were obvious; it was a day of smiles and tremendous excitement as events unfolded and we crept ever closer to the final. In the ‘Fingers on the buzzers’ round, we stormed ahead but eventually the reigning champions from Aysgarth pipped us to the post by only one question. However disappointment was swiftly replaced by pride in their achievement as they received their congratulations.
Terra Nova’s Head Boy, Zeb F-S commented:
‘It was an exciting day with challenging sections throughout. It put fun and competitiveness into our learning whilst teaching us teamwork and sportsmanship’
Ben LJ, Deputy Head Boy added:
‘The academic challenge day was entertaining and a great idea. It was based on general knowledge of academic subjects, which we enjoyed tremendously.’
