This week, Terra Nova’s U11 girls participated the ISFA regional qualifying tournament at AKS Lytham independent school. On a beautifully sunny day the girls played fantastically and finished 2nd overall and qualified for the national finals which will take place on 26th June at St George’s Park, the England national training centre.
The girls started the day with a tremendous performance winning 6-0, this was followed up by another strong performance resulting in a 3-0 win. AKS Lytham, who ultimately won the tournament, were the next opponents and proved to be tough opposition. The game epitomised the growing popularity of girls’ football with some unbelievably good football on display.
The TN team went into the final game needing to win to take 2nd place. Lucy B opened the scoring for TN and the girls dominated the game throughout creating numerous chances but got caught out as Bolton equalised to make the game 1-1. Thankfully the girls’ goal scoring record saw them claim 2nd place on goal difference.
It was most definitely a team performance in which every girl gave their all and consistently played superbly. Some excellent goals were scored and with so many great performances it is hard to pick out a player of the tournament but Lucy B, who was playing a year up, terrified the opposition with her silky skills and fantastic footwork. A massive well done to all involved!!!
