Shrewsbury School’s chemistry department played host to Year 7 pupils from a number of different schools. We were treated to a series of experiments in the lecture theatre before being interrupted by the fire alarm which was set off by the smoke generated from one of the home made fireworks! After the demonstrations we were led into one of the chemistry labs where pupils had a chance to carry out their own experiments. It was interesting to see which groups followed instructions well, which groups worked well as a team and which groups achieved all of their intended outcomes. Finally we were treated to some demonstrations involving liquid nitrogen which has an interesting effect on balloons and cut roses!!
