What an amazing day! Last Friday saw our Year 5 board a coach and travel, at the invitation of Repton School, for a day of singing and fun. The event took place in the impressive surroundings of Repton’s Pears School which was built in 1886 and boasts beautiful stained glass windows, oak panelling and a hammer-beam roof. There were a total of five schools taking part and proceedings were led by Mr Oliver Walker (Director of Music) supported by Mr Andrew Ashwin (Head of Singing).
Over the course of the day, the children learnt a total of 7 songs and without a script in sight. Added to this, many involved actions and some were sung in rounds. After lunch, the children were entertained by Repton’s stunning close-harmony group, The Reptiles, before the finale; which was a concert, where all the pieces were performed for parents and which was hosted by the Headmaster of Repton, Mr Alastair Land. The songs included humorous tunes such as The Grandma Rap and The Green Frog, a Gospel Melody and an African traditional song A Keelie. There was also a truly moving performance of Believe which included a solo from a very talented 6th Former, Rika.
The children’s performances were fantastic and we were very proud of them all. Thanks to the staff at Repton School who made this such a brilliant experience!
