Last Monday, Year 3 went on the most wonderful walk in the Cheshire countryside to launch, enrich and inspire their new topic, ‘Where my Wellies Take Me…’, based on the exquisite text by Michael and Clare Morpurgo.

The morning started with a walk around the Lovell Quinta Arboretum, followed by a den building competition in the woodland area.

Not only were teachers looking for well constructed dens, the main focus was on transferable life skills such as: collaboration, resilience, logical thinking and leadership. We also talked about articulating a vision, planning a strategy and the need for excellent communication skills.

After a picnic lunch by the lavender garden in Swettenham, Year 3 then embarked on a two mile walk through the fields, farm tracks and magical bluebell woods, finally ending in Twemlow.

It was a truly magical day out and Year 3 are now using the experience to inspire their descriptive writing in English and map making work in Geography.

We would like to thank The Swettenham Arms for allowing Terra Nova pupils to lunch in their lavender gardens as well as using their facilities.
