Terra Nova School managed to finish 5th in the 7s tournament held at the School. Their first game was against St Mary’s Hall winning comfortably 6 tries to 1. It was great for the 7s season to get ahead, with St Hugh’s Lincoln 7s cancelled last weekend the boys were fired up to play.

The 2nd game against the eventual winners Prestfelde who we will be meeting again in our first game at Rosslyn Park. We were unfortunate to be down 3 tries in the first half with some aggressive defence and top quality tackling from TN, Prestfelde were too organised and broke us down. Ashley M finished the game with a superb try, the final score 6 tries to 1 to Prestfelde. ‘A great lesson for us to learn about the game and move forward’ a great comment from pupil Joseph N.

The last group game against Rydal Penrhos decided who finished 2nd in the group, we had a strong start in the 1st half showing pride in our defence and moving the ball nicely leading us to score.  Despite some hard tackling from Will W and Bertie H, Rydal managed to get up the field to score. With 2 tries a piece in the later stages of the 2nd half, TN conceded too many penalties and Rydal marched up the field and scored the winning try!

The final game was played against Ellesmere College. TN had a great start with Henry D making a great break from his own half linking up with Ashley M to score in the corner taking the lead. With some heroic defending from Ewan L-S, TN led going in to the 2nd half 2 tries to 1. Both teams came out strong in the 2nd half, Ellesmere with some strong runs and Terra Nova with some great link up play created by some great turnovers. The game finished 3-3, a great game of 7s Rugby.

TN played some fantastic Rugby throughout the day, showing some great skills. All the players gained a positive experience from their 1st tournament. We are in a great place for Stonyhurst 7s next week and with Jason Duffy & Nick Royle coming in this Friday to deliver a masterclass, we look forward to further  improving our skills.
