Half term has arrived in what seems like a blink of an eye! It seems to be always the way at TN, the school days keep the children busy and engaged, as the saying goes: Time flies when you’re having fun! I hope that over half term you have the chance to read our new missive ‘Inspire’ and you and your children find it to be inspiring!
Integral to an education at TN is the inclusivity of our school and this is something I know we TN teachers are proud of. It actually makes the teaching at a school like ours more challenging as every lesson that is delivered has to be differentiated as the range of abilities in our classrooms are greater than in an academically selective school. But, we are focused on challenging the children and so challenging ourselves seems only fair! This concept of stretching the children to perform to the best of their abilities is very important to me. Striking the right balance in teaching and learning for the children versus working towards exam results is always an emotive subject, my personal view is that the best schools get this balance right.
At TN we continue to educate children so that they have the skills to succeed in life as well as to pass exams and I think they must be happy and enjoy their school days. As a parent I, of course, want the best for my children but as someone who has been teaching for over 20 years I have seen firsthand the damage that the wrong level of pressure can cause. I am pleased that we have the type of environment at TN where we have an open and honest dialogue with parents and we know our pupils well so that we can support the children to give of their very best in their school life. Have a good half term and apologies to Year 8, as your Headmaster, you definitely need to revise for your mock exams as they take place in the first week of school after the half term holiday!
